About Pediatricians
A Pediatrician is a specialized physician who works with infants, children, teenagers and young adults to diagnose, prevent, treat and manage the overall physical, mental and social health of each patient along with educating and providing support for the family and/or caregivers. Pediatricians typically work in private practice, hospitals and, occasionally, urgent care centers.
Pediatricians spend the majority of their day-to-day work treating minor illnesses and injuries common to children. Pediatricians also administer or ensure the administration of immunizations.
Outlook
According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for Pediatricians is expected to be above average through 2016. This growth will be attributed to vacancies made available through retirement as well as the increase of childhood obesity and the rapid increase in the diagnosis of neurological disorders in children, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The median annual salary for Emergency Medicine Physicians in the U.S. is estimated to be approximately $146,200.
