About Anesthesiology Jobs

An Anesthesiologist is a specialized physician who is concerned with the relief and total care of a patient before, during and after surgery or diagnostic procedures.  Anesthesiologists typically work in hospitals and outpatient clinics as well as surgical centers along with other physicians as part of a medical team. 

Anesthesiologists are trained to manage various emergency situations with patients and can perform cardiac and pulmonary resuscitation, advanced life support and airway management.  In cases where emergency surgery is required, Anesthesiologists play a vital role in stabilizing and preparing the patient.

Outlook

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for Anesthesiologists is expected to be well above average through 2016.  This demand will be fueled in part by the aging population that will need additional medical services.  Simultaneously, changes in health care coverage coupled with technological advances could limit opportunities in some regions while smaller, more rural areas will still experience high demand.  The median annual salary for Anesthesiologists in the U.S. is estimated to be approximately $270,000.
