A Psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in psychiatry and is committed to the mental health and stability of patients. Psychiatrists are able to prescribe psychiatric medication and can order specialized tests as well as conduct physical exams in order to diagnose and treat mental disorders. Psychiatrists use a combination of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, hospitalization and medication to care for patients. In some cases, they may also utilize electroconvulsive therapy when medication is not an option.
